Acting in harmony with the environment, we implement a variety of solutions and implement a number of initiatives that allow us to conduct our business in a sustainable manner. Through the technology used, we monitor the impact and introduce technological solutions that minimize the impact on the natural environment.
In 2018, we spent PLN 173 million on initiatives related to environmental protection.
The desire to limit the adverse impact on environmental resources is dictated by our internal need for responsible action, taking account of the expectations of regulators, Clients, business partners and the public. We express our concern for environmental resources in the adopted principles of the Enea Group Code of Ethics and the Enea Group Compliance Policy.
The area of environmental protection is treated as a priority, which is why it is reflected in the implemented policies, procedures, regulations and instructions. All companies of our Group comply with the applicable laws and regulations. Due to the specificity of their processes, they operate according to separate rules of using the environment, adequately to the business segment.
Shaping the culture of environmental management depends on the value of our organization. The principles that guide us are included in the Enea Group's Code of Ethics, according to which:
- Regardless of the place and type of work performed, we care for the natural environment and take all necessary steps to protect it;
- We use natural resources and energy rationally;
- We strive to ensure proper environmental protection by complying with the generally applicable laws, as well as internal regulations;
- We combine our activities and actively participate in educational campaigns for the protection of the natural environment and for building ecological awareness;
- We undertake activities aimed at preventing the occurrence of failures threatening the natural environment.
An important document in the field of a particular approach to environmental protection is the Compliance Group of Enea Group. The document indicates the attention to sustainable development and the natural environment, by means of, among others:
- Measures to minimize pollution emissions and to ensure reasonable management of natural resources;
- Initiatives to maintain a balance between the Group's operations and the natural environment;
- Conducting investments while taking account of environmentally friendly technologies;
- Supporting Renewable Energy Sources;
- Cooperation with organizations responsible for caring for the natural environment.
The Generation Area is subject to special regulations due to its significant environmental impact. Enea Wytwarzanie operates based on the adopted Policy of the Integrated Quality, Environment and Health and Safety Management System. The policy complies with the requirements of the following standards: PN-EN ISO 9001: 2015, PN-EN ISO 14001: 2015, PN-N-18001: 2004, OHSAS 18001: 2007 in the scope of electricity generation and trading as well as heat generation and supply.
As part of the Policy, we set goals, strategic development directions and implement processes related to environmental protection.
Enea Wytwarzanie has implemented a number of policies and guidelines that help manage the environmental area. The most important are as follows:
- The procedure of supervision over legal and other requirements;
- Identification procedure and assessment of environmental aspects;
- Environmental monitoring procedure;
- Procedure for identification of potential accidents and emergency situations and reacting in the event of their occurrence in Enea Wytwarzanie Sp. z o.o. in the location of Świerże Górne;
- The procedure of readiness and response to failures in the Koronowo location;
- Goal management procedure;
- Review procedure for management, analysis and improvement;
- Plan of rescue operations in the event of life and health threats of people and property or the environment in Enea Wytwarzanie Sp. z o.o. in Świerże Górne (Kozienice Power Plant);
- Other detailed procedures and instructions specifying the principles of conducting activities affecting the environment, monitoring, conducting measurements and exercising metrological supervision over measuring devices used to monitor the effects of environmental activities.
Enea Elektrownia Połaniec has implemented, among others, the following policies and procedures:
- Identification procedure and assessment of environmental aspects;
- Environmental monitoring procedure;
- Environmental management program.
Białystok Heat and Power Plant implements processes based on the Policy of Integrated Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety Management System, among others, the following procedures were implemented:
- Goal management procedure;
- Identification procedure and assessment of environmental aspects;
- Environmental monitoring procedure;
- The procedure of risk identification and determining methods for responding to environmental failures in Białystok Heat and Power Plant;
- The procedure for preventing and reducing the impact of emergency situations on the environment in Białystok Heat and Power Plant;
- Operational procedure in case of environmental failures in Białystok Heat and Power Plant.
None of our companies recorded any significant fines or non-financial sanctions for non-compliance with laws and regulations regarding environmental protection.
